What is Track or Treat?

Track or Treat is a one day event where roller derby and independent art come together in the best way. Watch live derby games packed with speed and strategy, then wander through a curated market filled with unique handmade work from local artists and makers.

Roller derby has always been closely connected to alternative and DIY culture. From handmade uniforms and bold personal style to skater run leagues and grassroots events, it is a sport built on creativity and doing things your own way. Track or Treat brings that same spirit off the track and into the market space.

The vibe is creative, welcoming, and a little bit alternative without taking itself too seriously. It is a space to hang out, discover new artists, support small businesses, and enjoy something a bit different. Whether you are here for the derby, the art, or just a good day out, Track or Treat is all about community and creativity.

Mini Alternative Art Market:

The Track or Treat market is a curated space celebrating independent artists, makers, and small creative businesses. You will find a mix of handmade goods, original art, wearable pieces, zines, prints, accessories, and all kinds of thoughtfully crafted items you won’t see in big retail stores.

We are looking for stallholders who create their own work, have a strong personal style, and bring something a little different to the table. We value originality, creativity, and that DIY spirit, and we are especially interested in artists whose work feels unique, expressive, and a bit outside the mainstream.

It is a chance to meet the people behind the work, support local creatives, and discover pieces that feel personal, a little unexpected, and completely unique.

The Vibe:

Creative, independent, DIY, alternative, handmade, expressive, grassroots, community, eclectic, playful, goth, punk, alternative, dark, moody, witchy, spooky, grunge, rebellious, lowbrow, weird, kitsch, raw, expressive, anti-mainstream

Roller Derby Double Header:

Roller derby is a fast paced, full contact sport played on roller skates. Two teams face off on the track, combining speed, strategy, and physical gameplay in short, high intensity jams. It is exciting to watch, easy to get into, and full of big moments.

Modern roller derby is skater run and community driven, with a strong focus on inclusivity, empowerment, and teamwork. It has deep roots in alternative culture, where individuality and self expression are part of the game as much as the sport itself.

At Track or Treat, you will get to experience live games featuring skaters of different skill levels, from developing players to more experienced competitors. Whether you are new to derby or already a fan, it is a chance to get up close to the action and be part of the atmosphere.

The day will feature two bouts, both run in a “potluck” style format. This means teams are made up of individual skaters from different leagues who are mixed together for the event, rather than playing for their usual home teams. It creates a fun, social, and slightly unpredictable game, with a strong focus on collaboration, sportsmanship, and community. With the event’s spooky theme in full swing, skaters are encouraged to get creative with their boutfits, bringing bold, eerie, or playful looks on track that add to the atmosphere and make the games even more fun to watch.

Entry fees, vendor fees, and other event charges are used to help cover the cost of running Track or Treat, including venue hire, equipment, insurance, and essential event logistics. These costs are what make it possible to deliver a safe and well-run event.

It is important to note that all sales made by stallholders on the day go directly to the artists and makers themselves. Northern Beaches Roller Derby League does not take any percentage or commission from vendor sales, and vendor fees are only for participation in the event.

Once event costs are covered, any additional proceeds are used as fundraising for Northern Beaches Roller Derby League. NBRDL is a not-for-profit community sports organisation, and these funds help support league operations, training, equipment, and the ongoing development of roller derby in our community.
